The Farnsworth’s nationally renowned collection of American art continues to grow through gifts, bequests, and occasional purchases from its limited acquisition funds. In the past several years, a number of major donations have significantly enhanced the museum’s holdings. This exhibition will feature recent acquisitions of works by important twentieth-century artists Georgia O’Keeffe, Arthur Dove, Rockwell Kent, Marguerite and William Zorach, Elaine de Kooning and Andrew Wyeth, as well as nineteenth-century works by Fitz Henry Lane and Harrison Bird Brown. Almost all of the works in the exhibition are shown for the first time.
